Helena Krejčová, the Director of the Documentation Centre, passed away

On December 31, 2022, Helena Krejčová, the longtime director of the Documentation Centre, died, aged 71. All Centre employees share the sadness of her loss.

Helena Krejčová was an expert in the history of the persecution of Jews in the context of the Czech state during the Second World War. In the years 2001 – 2003, she was the driving force behind the establishment of the Documentation Center. Throughout its existence, she was one of the pillars of the Centre’s research and publication activities. Under her leadership, the Centre organized a number of conferences with significant international participation and established cooperation with similarly focused workplaces abroad.

In cooperation with UPM, she prepared the exhibitions Memories Returned and Returning Identity. She has published a number of publications describing the mechanisms of property spoliations of Holocaust victims and mapping the fates of preserved spoliated objects; identifiing the original owners of many of them. Helena Krejčová will be truly missed by the staff of the Center both professionally and personally.
